The earliest mention as licensed premises is Mrs Prince in 1851. It seems that it was a beer house, and then in 1892, George Westwood sold the contents and it is
assumed this was to enable the building to be demolished and the current building erected, for which a full on licence was granted in 1894.
This was reported in the Bury & Norwich Post on 9th October 1894 "An application was made to the West Suffolk Licensing Committee for a
full licence for the Cherry Tree beerhouse, Exning. The house had been built two years and was well adapted for the purpose for which it
was desired to be utilised. The owner of the house is Mr Armstrong, Cambridge." Tollemache and Cobbold tenancy till 1973, then managed. Changed to Grand Metropolitan in 1980's but now Trust Inns |
