Only record seen so far is on the 15th century map in Peter May's book "Newmarket, Medieval and Tudor",
where it is placed on the High Street, very near the Bull, on the corner of the High Street and Market Street. In point of fact it appears that the space between the Christopher and the Bull was the lane into to the market at that time. What is now Market Street likely came into being when the site of the Hand and Sword was unused, shifting the way to the market to the west |
