The "Victory " Court of the Ancient Order of Foresters was held in 1913 at "The Crown" according to the contribution card of David Game, member 234, the Secretary being Harry Ashby
The Foresters purchased Amatola House in 1924. The premises consisted of Chudleigh House, Amatola House and bar and office. In 1986 it was threatened with closure. Towards the end, it acquired the somewhat exaggerated nick name of "God's Waiting Room" In September 2022 closure actually came about. The premises, which had 3 years still to run on the lease, was sold at auction to the same developer who purchased the adjoining Golding's Garage. This closure however was temporary while the club and properties surrounding it changed hands again and planning permission was being rejected and re-submitted. As of June 2024 it was still open, albeit with limited hours. |
