The Queens Moat House Hotel was opened in June 1980, on Moulton Road, the site of what was once a stableman's hostel, and then an old peoples home, Heath Court. Queens Moat House Hotel by 1991 were the 3rd biggest hotel chain in UK, but on 31 March 1993, trading in its shares was suspended after an accounting scandal. The company was subsequently investigated under Section 432(2) of the Companies Act 1985. When the chain of hotels was broken up, the Newmarket hotel was acquired by Stephen Gross and and re-named the Heath Court Hotel. The hotel was re-modelled in 2010.
