At the junction of Old Station Road with Albert Street,(sometimes Moulton Road) one of the oldest pubs in Newmarket.
One confusion with publicans is the time of George Saich. There were two George John Saich, one died in 1887 aged 48 and the other, his son, died in 1894 aged 26. Both are recorded in the burial register as publicans. Rebecca took over on the death of "John" (The Newmarket Journal records "from her husband"), but it looks as if Saich junior had a short spell as landlord as well, his father dying in November 1887 and the licence going to his mother in August 1888. The pub underwent a £51,000 facelift in 2010. |
