Peter May's book "Medieval and Tudor Newmarket" has this one recorded that "1590 Samuel Hudson left to the poor benefactions from the profits of the Prince's Arms". This from SRO
From Peter May's "Newmarket Inventories 1662 - 1715" he explains that The Prince's Arms was purchased from Samuel Hudson by Allen Wyat, a glazier,, just before his death in 1675, and occupied by Thomas Spooner, and Allen Wyat, in his will, instructed that the benefaction should be continued. Believed to have been the forerunner of The FEATHERS which site eventually became the Post Office which was bombed in 1941. |
