The Yard (formerly the Grosvenor Arms), is tucked away just inside the Grosvenor Yard's High Street entrance. It seems it
may well have originated as the kitchen and staff quarters for the house fronting the High Street. The Brewery certainly at one time
owned the properties on the High Street. An old publican stated that there were
definite signs of a bricked up "tunnel" in the cellars, but this may just have been to seperate the cellars when the premises were
eventually divided. The pub re-opened after extensive renovations on 14th December 1997, which ended its unenviable title as the last Newmarket pub with outside toilets. The name was also changed at that time to "The Yard" click here to go to the The Yard website for more details |
